Project Title: Visual Identity - Art House
Client Name: Toronto Film School – Student Work
Brief: Develop a visual identity for Art House, a movie theater that offers a unique movie experience for its audience. It is a double-screen movie theatre with state-of-the-art audio, screening independent feature films. Art House offers a friendly, comfortable, and modern theatre for those that appreciate the art and craft of films and enjoy a unique and social viewing experience.
Roll and Skills: I designed a visual identity that presented an unconventional movie theatre experience offered by the Art House, a theatrical experience for those open to new ideas and where the audience is free to express and explore unique experiences. To connect to a modern style, a sans serif geometric font lays the foundation. To connect with an artistic feel, typography mimics hand drawn lines associated with cubism art. Using shape and colour to create an association between film and art, a cubism take on the look and feel of a traditional film projector, maintaining a familiar graphic while drawing in colours, shapes, and lines with an association to famous unconventional art. The primary colour palette, accented with black and white directly relates to abstract and cubism art pieces, linking the graphic and art form.
Results: The logo system for Art House associates film with art, linking film with an unconventional art style that is familiar, appealing to an audience that appreciates unique experiences in a social setting that expresses the importance of art and culture. A familiar but engaging style that brings in primary colours into a recognizable artistic style and graphic to bring the audience back to the offering.
