Go Alice
Project Title: Comic Cover - Alice
Client Name: Toronto Film School – Student Work
Brief: Design a Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland comic with a live action feel that appeals to an audience interested in superhero themes. Bring the strength, boldness, and action of women to the main character and storyline with illustration and a layout reminiscent of comic books and graphic novels.
Roll and Skills: I designed the layout and created the illustrations using Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator. I developed a style utilizing a comic/graphic book style, a bold and strong presence with a vintage feel connects to a classic, familiar story line. The typography is a bold heavy sans serif typeface for the heading sets the tone, accompanied by a handwritten typeface for the body text personalizes the storyline. Colour expands on the simple blue/yellow/white colour palette of Alice, a pop art colour palette is used to take the storyline into a live action and comic feel. The colour palette is further styled with a sepia and halftone dot overlay, reminiscent of vintage comic books, linking to the familiar classic story line of Alice in Wonderland.
Results: Taking the classic storyline of Alice in Wonderland combined with the look of comic books creates a layout that is filled with strong characters, bold style, exciting action. Alice is featured as the strong women that can take on anything!
